Tips on Finding a Good Book
So many books, So Little Time
There are literally millions of books on the marketplace, in libraries, and being published every day. With so many choices, its tough to single out what book to read next. If you’re like me, I tend to like reading non fiction novels and essays, but if you’re like some of my peers here at Author.com, you may like reading fiction romance or horror fantasy. So where do you start on your search? The team at Author.com has put together several great resources to get you on your way to reading in the next great novel.
Check the New York Times bestseller lists
The New York Times bestseller list is the epitome of best selling lists nationwide. They offer great information on the various bestselling books of all genres, such as Hardcover Fiction & Nonfiction, Paperback Trade Fiction & Nonfiction, Paperback Mass-Market Fiction, Hardcover & paperback Advice/Self Help, Children’s Books, and Business Hardcover & paperback.
Search for online book stores
There are a wide variety of online bookstores to choose from, just search for “Online Book Stores” on WebMarket or Webcrawler to find your favorite online book store. Both of these search engines offer up results from all your favorite search engines, such as Google, Yahoo, MSN, Ask, and more. This is how I avoid just search on a site that is tailors to specific sponsored publishers and author programs.
"All good books are alike in that they are truer than if they had really happened and after you are finished reading one you will feel that all that happened to you and afterwards it all belongs to you; the good and the bad, the ecstasy, the remorse and sorrow, the people and the places and how the weather was. If you can get so that you can give that to people, then you are a writer." Ernest Hemingway
Check out the book video trailers online
(Not available for all books, but a majority of new ones)Book trailers are the modern backs of books. They offer an authors preview into what the book is about, with a visual representation, much like a movies trailer.
Local library, your favorite genre section
Take a stroll into your local library and just look around in your favorite genre section. Local Libraries and Librarians are a great resource when searching for a new book. Libraries are categorized by genre, so you can just walk into the library and look at the fiction horror section for a new book, if that’s your favorite genre. Librarians also offer up valuable firsthand knowledge about recent and classic releases, so don’t be afraid to ask them for advice about specific books, authors, and recommended reading.
