Limit Television
Set a daily time limit on television and set an hour or two for reading. Have your kids earn tv or video game-time. If you start your child in this habit at a young age, it won’t be nearly as hard to keep them in practice. Television and video games are an inevitable force that suck kids in, and in my house it’s fully accepted, but it’s understood that reading is an integral part of our entertainment routine, as well.
Lessons Learned
Have your child report back on what they learned from the book they»re reading. It can be as simple as a half page of notes, but it»s important that they understand what they»ve read and didn»t just zone out through the vast array of words in a book — as we all know is very possible.
